Now that the $2.75 per pack state excise tax will be collected on per-pack sale of tobacco sold by Indians, Nice N Easy Grocery Shoppes owner and President John MacDougall said he expects his business to to pick up.
"The impact will be quite positive," said MacDougall today. "I base that on our experience with what’s happened in Seneca and Cayuga counties, where authorities closed Indian Nation operations there. Sales increased dramatically and so did sales tax revenue."
Earlier this month, a State Supreme Court judge ruled that the Cayuga Indian Nation could no longer sell untaxed Cigarettes, upholding Cayuga and Seneca counties attempts to stop the Indian nation from selling the Cigarettes.
Nice N Easy has eight convenience stores in Oneida County.
